No more low-budget sequels

Disney announced that they will no longer produce low-budget sequels for their classic movies. Examples of this include “Little Mermaid 2″ and “Lion King 1 and 1/2.” The change reflects the new philosophy and impact that Pixar (including Steve Jobs and John Lasseter) have had at Disney. This announcement is being made despite the fact that direct-to-DVD movies like this have been profitable for Disney in the past.

In a recent performance of the Beauty and the Beast stage show in Walt Disney World, the performer playing Mrs. Potts lost her balance and fell onto her side. Stagehands arrived quickly to get her back upright and she went on as if nothing happened.

Perhaps that’s how Chip got his, well, chip?!

Netcot.com – On your iPhone

If you’re like me, you waited in line this afternoon to pick up a brand new iPhone and you’re now walking through the setup in iTunes. For that reason, I thought I’d remind you that the new Netcot.com site (including the message boards) looks great in Apple’s Safari browser (which is what the iPhone uses).

If that’s not enough, you can also sync the Netcot.Podcast to your iPhone and access the Netcot video podcast episode on YouTube. That should come in handy when you want to keep up with the latest Netcot news (or when you want to show your friends how cool you are because you’re a member of the Netcot.com site)!

Netcot Forums: New Avatars

The new Netcot forums (message boards) have all new avatars! You can choose from your favorite classic album, NFL team or country flag. We also have lots of cool new SciFi and 3D images to choose from. Of course, you can also upload your own image if you’d like. Be sure to check out your Netcot forums profile information to look through the new options!

We’re excited to announce the launch of the all new NETCOT.com website!

The site has been completely redesigned from the ground up to give visitors a completely new experience from any Netcot.com site they have visited before. Some of the biggest new features include:

Completely new interface!
Downloads area including a new “featured download” each month
“Tags” that allow visitors to see which content categories are the most popular
A Netcot.Store section – where you can get your hands on stuff that’s mentioned in the Netcot.Podcast … and even Netcot.com gear of your own including t-shirts and much more!
A Photocast that allows guests to subscribe to an RSS feed of high-resolution Disney photos (great for screensavers!)

Guests will also notice that for the first time ever, the message boards (forums) have been updated to have the same design as the rest of the site. We think this will make Netcot.com “feel” like its one big happy site, instead of a few that have been strung together. Disney could re-release “Song of the South”

The 1946 Disney film “Song of the South” was Disney’s first big live-action picture and produced one of the company’s most famous songs — the Oscar-winning “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.” It also carries the story line of the Splash Mountain rides at its theme parks.

But the movie remains hidden in the Disney archives and is criticized as racist for its depiction of Southern plantation blacks. While the 60th anniversary of the film was last year, it wasn’t until recently that Bob Iger (Disney’s CEO) commented that the company is considering releasing the film.

Disney sues Anaheim over housing plan

The Walt Disney Co. is suing the city of Anaheim over a controversial residential project that would add low-cost housing in the city’s resort district.

Disney is opposing the proposal to build 1,500 condominiums and apartments, including 225 units for lower income residents, near its amusement parks.

Disney to launch website aimed at moms

The Walt Disney Co. is launching a new Web site aimed at moms. Disney says that moms are increasingly turning to the Internet for answers to everything from problems with teething babies to financing college.
