House Rules
Netcot.com is all about free-speech and creating a community where you can have access to the biggest and most intersting Disney-related stories, media and discussions. Over the years, we’ve learned that there are four simple rules that help create a safe community where everyone can speak their mind openly and honestly, without being hurtful. We call these our House Rules:
1. Have Fun.
Netcot.com is a Disney fan site. Disney is an entertainment company. People get entertained because they want to have fun. Therefore, by the transitive property, we should make sure we have fun @ Netcot.com, because ultimately, that’s what people want.
2. Be Respectful.
In the early days of Disney fan sites on the internet, we drew a lot of attention to ourselves because we posted constructive criticism. We were one of the first sites to review rides, movies, etc. in an open and honest way. If we didn’t like something, we’d say it. AND, we welcomed debate (after all, you might have an opinion that makes us see it differently!).But with everything we say, we try to remember that SOMEONE spent a lot of time, energy and money creating whatever we were reviewing. Out of respect for their effort, we try to offer CONSTRUCTIVE criticism that’s designed to offer an opinion, give feedback and help make Disney products that much better.
We encourage you to debate any and all opinions and to post your own reviews of things. But we ask that you be respectful of one another in the process. The object is to share viewpoints, not convince everyone that yours is the right one.
Also, while we do not engage in censorship of our site, we do ask that you keep in mind that some of the people visiting this site are families or children. We ask that you keep that in mind and use appropriate language. Let’s try to keep it at least PG-13, most of the time anyway.
3. Say what you’re going to say.
Journalists need to report the facts in a tactful way. Any story posted at Netcot.com under the “news” category will always have a source listed … and it’ll be a reputable source, not some dude’s blog. Sure, we might post speculation and rumors, but we’ll always list them as such in the first paragraph of the article. Same thing goes for an opinions, reviews or other content that isn’t “news.”Also, we’ve created several message boards for Netcot.com visitors to discuss a variety of topics with one another. Please take a moment to look them over and post your discussion in the most appropriate area … it helps keep things nice and organized.
4. Free Speech for Everyone.
If you’ve followed rules 1-3, then you’ve paved the way for a true “free speech” type of discussion, and that’s what we’re all about. Please feel free to speak your mind about any posting, news story, discussion thread or any other piece of content. Just make sure to follow the rules above to ensure that everyone has a good time.
Thanks! Have a great time!
