FAQs

I often get asked questions about the same things. One might call them “frequently asked questions.” Hey, that’s got a nice ring to it! — How about some answers:

What equipment do you use to do the Netcot.Podcast?
I primarily use Apple’s GarageBand software. I also use a Sennheiser microphone and speakers, a microphone stand and a microphone shield (or spit-shield, not because I need it but because it helps even out the sound of P’s and B’s which often “pop” in a microphone). I run everything through an Alesis condenser, a Beringer mixer and a Geffin mic input running into an iMac. Most of the post-production work happens on an iMac, MacBookPro or MacBook.

If you have a podcast (or are considering one), I’d suggest checking out this article on how to set yourself up with equipment that will make a big difference for under $200.

Can I put a link on my site to Netcot.com?
Sure! You don’t even have to ask. I’ve set up a page with more details including some graphics I built for just this type of occasion.

Can you put a link on Netcot to my site?
There are TONS of great Disney sites that have links to other websites out there. I’d suggest getting your site listed on one of those. While I do have a “Van’s links” section, I try to limit those sites to the absolute best of the best of the best. Since this site isn’t trying to be a master list other Disney fan sites, we don’t have an area for links back to other sites. Now, if you think your site belongs in the Van’s links page, feel free to let me know. Please don’t be upset if it doesn’t make it, though. I wouldn’t even put Netcot.com in that section!

How can I get Netcot Gear?
Just head over to our Netcot.Store for links to TWO websites where I have T-shirts and such for sale. We also have an Amazon.com store in the same location with links to a lot of the stuff we talk about on the podcast. — We make a very small amount of money on these purchases and it all goes to paying the ISP bills to keep this thing running. Your patronage is GREATLY appreciated!

Where can I find music that was used on the Netcot.Podcast?

Most of the music on the podcast comes from Apple’s GarageBand software as part of their built-in clips. We also (rarely) feature clips of songs from artists and mention the name wherever possible. We also put a link to these artists’ CDs in the Netcot.Store to make it easy for you to find their CDs (and to help encourage the sale of their CD). If its not from one of those two places, then its a song that was sent to us by someone or made available on a DRM-free website like garageband.com.

If its Disney audio you’re looking for, then I suggest trying MouseBits.com and SoundofMagic.com.

What happened to the OLD Netcot.com? The “Mickey Rating System” and such?!
Sadly, we decided to take this site in a new direction as a result of the podcast’s success. Visitors to netcot.com told us that they really didn’t care about the funny ride reviews and Mickey Rating System. We were bummed to hear that, but totally understand. There’s tons of that kind of content out there and we want to be as unique as possible. So… its gone. (At least for now.)
