WDW Monorails Re-open

Walt Disney World re-opened their monorails today within a day after shutting them down after an accident where two collided early Sunday morning.

According to a note sent to employees this morning, the company says they are reopening the monorail system with new safety sensors which have been added to monorail track switches. While Disney has not yet released any additional details about the incident, it is now clear that the collision occurred as one of the two trains involved was being transferred off the monorail track line leading to the Epcot theme park.

OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Heath Administration) has sent investigators to look into the event and given their approval to have the monorail system “released” back to the resort.

“We have completed a thorough safety inspection and system checks to verify that it is safe to operate the monorail for our guests and cast,” Disney said. “We’ve added additional verifications of these track switch positions, supplemented our safety procedures and protocols for these operations, and communicated these changes to our Transportation partners.”

I’m glad these are re-opened. We are heading down there in a few weeks and was really looking forward to riding those. The last two times I’ve been down there this year I’ve not been able too. Hopefully this type of accident won’t happen again.

It is amazing that Disney can re-open this ride, with increased safety measures within one day of this accident.

^^^Umm… it’s Disney….a fairy flies away from Cindy’s castle every night so fixing a monorail isn’t too amazing.
