Two Monorails Collide at Walt Disney World

At 2 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, the Pink monorail, which was moving into the Ticket and Transportation Center, ran into the Purple monorail, which was stationary. One driver was killed while the other was injured (none of the guests riding were injured). The monorail will be shut down until further notice.

Walt Disney World issued the following statement on the crash:

“Today, we mourn the loss of our fellow cast member. Our hearts go out to his family and to those who have lost a friend and co-worker. The safety of our guests and cast members is always our top priority. The monorail is out of service and we will continue to work closely with law enforcement to determine what happened and the approximate next steps.” — Mike Griffin, Walt Disney World Vice President of Public Affairs

Update:

CNN is reporting that a witness said one monorail train rammed into the back of a stationary train. Another image of the crash from a witness is provided below.

Accidents are what happens when you plan ahead and the unexpected occurs. THIS WAS NO ACCIDENT!!!!!!! This, as well as other incidents which get quickly covered up at Magic Kingdon and Epcot, was result of Disney parks maximizing their own profits and cutting back. Its somewhat obvious to guests in food a bit worse, smaller, or favorite attractions becoming stores to make more money. BEHIND scenes, it’s SCARY how much Disney cuts corners. The driver will take the fall no matter what. Sad.

How do you know it was no accident?

Hey Susan, you better put on your tinfoil hat. I think the government is blasting your brain too much again.

WOW…How sad that you would use this tragedy as an opportunity to promote your own agenda. How can you jump to all those conclusions when hardly any facts are known? Why don’t you wait instead of creating your own story? Susan your post is truly pathetic…I feel sorry for you.

My prayers are with the family of the driver that was killed and those that were injured in this terrible event.

Susan, you really need to watch what you say. to you, disney may cut corners, but in reality, they actually DO care about us Cast Members. As a cast member, i have lost a family member, and since the driver was a CP, i feel like this kid has indirectly touched my life. So really, watch what you say, or at least be aware of who is on this board.

Susan, I am a monorail cast member who was working the night it happened. How dare you say that it was not an accident and that we are covering it up. And how dare you say that we cut corners to maximize profits. You have idea how much work we do everyday to make sure that the monorail is safe to drive and safe for the guests. I, for one, hope I never see you at on the Parks.
