A New Statue for Disneyland?
The OC Register tells a tale of a family that has asked Disneyland to immortalize their son in statue form. The family of Julian Alexander (who was shot and killed by an Orange County police officer who was in pursuit of burglary suspects on October 28, 2008) has asked Walt Disney Company officials to install a statue on Disneyland’s Main Street in honor of Alexander. They-as well as the Southern Christian Leadership Conference-claim that it would ”serve as a message of healing and reconciliation to the community and a reminder that deadly force should be eliminated from the streets of Anaheim. [They] believe that Anaheim is a company town, and that Disneyland plays a serious role in the community…this isn’t about the money, it’s about honoring a man who didn’t deserve to die and preventing it from ever happening again.”
Suzi Brown, spokeswoman for the Disneyland Resort, stated, “Clearly this is a tragic situation, but it has nothing to do with Disneyland.”
