While crossing the Panama Canal on May 16, the 964-foot, 875-stateroom Disney Magic’s canal fees totaled $331,200. The Panama Canal Authority increased fees in 2007 and now charges cruise ships according to the number of beds instead of the cargo capacity. The previous record fee paid by a cruise ship was $313,000 last October by two Norwegian Cruise Line ships.
