When the space shuttle Discovery lifts off this Saturday, Buzz Lightyear, of Toy Story fame, will have finally found a way into space. When Discovery goes up, Buzz will be along for the ride in the form of a one foot tall figurine that will have a home on the International Space Station. Lightyear will be in the ISS until November.

During his trip, he will demonstrate the concept of zero gravity to elementary aged children through NASA’s “Toys in Space” educational program. Disney developed the “Space Ranger Education Series” for the chance to have Buzz go into space. His flight will also be used to promote the opening of Toy Story Midway Mania at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and at Disney’s California Adventure.
