Jake Gyllenhaal is Disney’s “Prince of Persia.” The Mouse chose the actor, among many others that, at one point, included Orlando Bloom, to headline Jerry Bruckheimer’s adaptation of Ubisoft’s hit fantasy action game that Bruckheimer and Disney want to turn into a “Pirates of the Caribbean”-type franchise. Gyllenhaal’s costar will be Gemma Arterton who appears in this fall’s James Bond film–”Quantum of Solace.” Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina, played by Arterton, who is a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Ubisoft released the first “Prince of Persia” game in 1989, which has spawned several sequels for various video game consoles. The latest title in the series will arrive in stores later this year.
