What I meant on the previous post was that there were 73 flights FROM the LA area to Las Vegas, meaning an equal number going the other way.

I counted about 73 scheduled airline flights a day between the LA area and Las Vegas. that includes LAX, Burbank Airport (BUR), Orange Count (SNA), and Long Beach (LGB). Multiply that number by 2, and there’s 146 flights going between LA an Las Vegas. That’s a whole lot of traffic on such a short route. A some of those passengers are going to connect onward, but I would venture to guess that it’s a small number.

Even though it’s not good for my profession and future pilots, I think this would be a great idea. It would decrease a lot of the strain on the ATC system in SoCal, and/or open up room for more flights to other destinations.

“approval by congress” is the end of it right there. The government won’t subsidize anything that benefits what they see as sinful. There has been talk about a high speed train between LA and Vegas for decades. The last I heard it had been moved out to Barstow to eliminate some of the mountains that it would have to climb over. The only way that I think this will ever happen will be if it’s funded privately, but with the changes in eminent domain laws in both states, the government won’t be buying the land for the right of way, so the investors will have to pay for it.

About 12 years ago, Disney proposed a monorail between Disneyland and the Queen Mary (when they used to own it). This got shot down by the city of Bell since they wouldn’t receive any revenue from it flying through their town.

It may happen some time in the future, but only as a part of a far more elaborate intra and interstate system.

Just my opinion anyway…

I think Orlando should be connected by Monorail, certainly would help me out. But seriously from the Orlando Airport to WDW, how rad would that be!

I think it’s time to start to build a maglev across the country… as oil hits 100$ per barrell + maglev requires almost none maintenance cost compare the traditional trains (high maintenance costs like bearings replacements, lubricants change every 1000 kms, etc.)

Think about this: let’s say 100 years from today, all oil are used up… so people may rely heavily to travel with MAGLEV! instead of cars and airplanes…
