New outfits for the Chinese New Year have been unveiled at Hong Kong Disneyland for Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The outfits created by Vivienne Tam is part of the park’s effort to boost attendance of Chinese tourists. Mickey has a new bright red Mao suit while Minnie has a new cherry blossom red dress. The outfit is named after the Communist ruler Mao Zedong who would wear the outfits instead of suits. The outfits will also be available for guests to purchase in March of April.
“I’ve liked Mickey Mouse since I was very little. They (Disney characters) gave me many happy moments during my childhood,” Tam, a Hong Kong native, said.
