Hong Kong Disneyland’s Second Year Crowds Disappointing

The Hong Kong government has indicated that Hong Kong Disneyland only attracted over 4 million in its second year indicating a fall of more than 20 percent. Last year the park attracted 5.2 million visitors which was also lower than expected. The park has suffered due to its small size and limited number of major attractions. These factors make it hard to get repeat visitors from China. Ocean Park, a rival theme park nearby, has hurt the parks attendance and enjoys higher attendance numbers than Disneyland.
“The second year we had more than 4 million visitors, which makes up a total number of more than 10 million for 26 months,” said spokeswoman Glendy Chu.
“In the short term, we did not achieve the attendance targets for which we had hoped. We recognize that we need to bolster our numbers which is our focus today,” Disney added in a statement.
