Disney Begins To Sell Land For ‘Flamingo Crossings’

(News | Orlando Sentinel)

Walt Disney World is beginning the process of building Flamingo Crossings at the western entrance to its property. Flamingo Crossings will be a shopping center outside its western gates but still inside the Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID). The center will be developed by third-party and the land will actually be sold, not leased like other non-Disney owned entities inside the RCID. The project will include value priced hotels and shops in its 450-acre layout.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This is the LAST thing I wanted for Disney! Didn’t Walt buy all that land just so he could prevent things like this from happening? Why go selling it now? Is this a signal for the end of all growth for WDW? Disney, I know you’re listening, and it just doesn’t make business sense. If you want shops there, build them yourself! You’ll make more money off of it in the long term, and your guests will be happier that they don’t have some weird 3rd party shopping center imposing on their vacation!

I agree… but this will be outside the WDW property, just still on RCID’s property. They tried to do this with Celebration but eventually removed the land from RCID so the people living there couldn’t vote on what WDW did. I know where they are building it, and it’s on the far edge of the property. Check this link out and you can see it… it’s bordered on the left by the WDW property canal and on the left by 429
