Disabled Advocates Push Disney World To Allow Segways In Parks

(News | Source: Boston Globe)

Disabled advocates, mainly Disability Rights Advocates for Technology, are trying to get Walt Disney World to lift their ban on the use of personal Segways at the theme parks. The advocates say the scooters give people who can’t walk more freedom than a wheelchair. James Nappier, an Iraq war veteran, was turned away from Epcot earlier this week and told he could only enter the park in a wheelchair.

“We’re not turning people away, we’re turning away a particular form of transportation.” said Disney World spokeswoman Kim Prunty. “Our concern has continued to be the safety of all our guests and cast members,” she continued.
