The Walt Disney Company has issued a formal apology for an incident at Disneyland. Wil Kenney, of San Diego, was detained by Disney security for what he claims was simple hand holding with his partner. Disney security claims that Kenney had threatened someone with a gun. Anaheim police were called and did not find any weapons. Kenney claims he was harassed due to an anti-gay bias at the theme parks due to holding another man’s hand.
Rob Doughty, VP of communications at Disneyland, said the whole incident was a misunderstanding and had nothing to do with Kenny’s sexuality. He indicated Kenney made a hand gesture that a Disney cast member interpreted as threatening. Doughty said security came over and detained Kenney and his group, who grew angry.
