Greenpeace Activists Change Bulbs at Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel

(News | Source: San Jose Mercury News)

Over the weekend, Greenpeace activists sneaked into Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and changed several incandescent light bulbs with energy efficient fluorescent bulbs. They also setup a banner stating “Mickey harms the global climate” to protest Hong Kong Disneyland’s energy management. Greenpeace says that the two lobby chandeliers have over 200 incandescent light bulbs which create more heat than light.

“Disneyland actually dims its own fairy tale by using energy inefficient bulbs and is costing our environment,” Frances Young said of Greenpeace said.

Disney wouldn’t confirm the statement but has indicated that it started installing energy-saving lights in guest rooms in 2006 and has made other changes to save power.
